Privacy

Charlie's Path collects only the information it needs to run your account and save your progress. Your data is not sold or used for advertising. The only analytics is an anonymous, cookie-free count of page views, provided by Vercel Web Analytics; it cannot identify you. There is no other tracking, and no crash or error reporting. If something goes wrong, the error is shown on your device and is not sent to us.

What we keep

GPS files and tracks

When you import a walk, Charlie's Path reads the file and matches it to the Coast Path on your device. Your original GPX, TCX or FIT file, and its full GPS track, are never uploaded.

For a history import, Charlie's Path saves the title, date, distance and matched stretches for each activity that touched the Coast Path. It does not save the GPS trace. Activities that did not touch the path are not recorded.

For an individual walk that you choose to save, Charlie's Path keeps a heavily simplified version of the route, usually around 250 points, so it can be shown on your map.

Photos are reduced in size before they are stored in private storage that only you can access. If a photo contains location data, Charlie's Path can use it to place the photo on the chart. That location is then saved with the photo.

Where your data is stored

Your account and saved data are held by Supabase, which provides the database and sign-in system. Charlie's Path is hosted by Vercel. The typefaces are loaded from Google Fonts, so your browser also contacts Google when it fetches them.

These services receive the technical requests needed to provide those parts of the app.

Downloading your data

When you are signed in, you can use Download a copy of my data from the account sheet.

This creates a JSON file containing your coverage, walks and their details, your photo list and your guide ticks. The photo files themselves remain in your private storage and can be saved separately from the app.

Downloading your data does not change or remove anything from your account.

Deleting your account

You can use Delete my account and all my data from the account sheet. This removes your coverage, walks, photos, guide ticks, email address and sign-in record.

You can also email hello@charliespath.co.uk from your sign-in address and ask for your account to be deleted. We will usually do this within a few days.

Signing out also clears the local copy of your data from that device. If a shared device is showing someone else's progress, use Not you? Clear this device. This removes the local copy without affecting their account.
