Before you set out
Charlie's Path is a walking journal, not a route or safety guide. The seasonal notes in the field guide describe what you might encounter on the coast, but they should not be used to plan a walk.
This is general guidance, not a substitute for official tide tables. Always check local tide times and conditions before you set out.
Take particular care around tides. Estuaries, saltmarsh, sands and causeways can flood quickly and may cut off your route back. Check local tide times and the weather before you leave, allow plenty of time, and turn back if conditions are uncertain.
For weather and sea conditions, check the Met Office and the RNLI. If someone is in danger on the coast or in the water, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
